SUMMER COACH POSITION OVERVIEW

This summer, we are extending our programming to engage students in groups of 10 -12 in continuous learning and to provide more social opportunities for them! We are looking for Summer Learning Coaches to run summer programs in Winter Garden, FL. The schedule for each day will consist of socialization activities, independent reading time, and two unique but thematic enrichments. Each Summer Learning Coach will receive a thematic unit plan with materials to implement with students. Coaches will also have access to pod games and materials to offer other facilitated socialization times at the pods, too.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are three core responsibilities to being a Summer Programs KaiPod Coach:

  1. Create a positive social experience for students. A Kaipod Coach’s primary responsibility is to lead and create an incredibly positive student culture. KaiPod is a space where students make friends, complete challenging enrichments, and look forward to coming everyday. Together, the Coach and students work on developing social skills that are critical for life success.
  2. Support students with independent reading time and group free time. A portion of each day is set aside for students to discover their love for reading and sharing their experiences with other students. Additionally, there are several semi-structured times when students are guided in play. These organized group activities could be playing a board game, participating in a physical game, completing a craft, or completing a puzzle. KaiPod Coaches enhance these experiences by supporting students in social development and guiding play.
  3. Lead engaging thematic enrichments. Twice a day, the KaiPod Coach will guide students through a 90-minute thematic enrichment that has been planned for both the coach and students. Enrichments will include science, art and games based on the session theme. The Coach will need to make the plan come alive with students!

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, FUNCTIONS

  • Experience engaging and supporting diverse learners with an established toolbox of strategies to ensure the inclusion of all students.
  • Tech savvy. Able to navigate software to manage daily attendance, parent communication, and student tracking.
  • A leader and culture builder. Think strategically about how to create a harmonious environment where kids want to be and have fun!
  • Organized and prepared. Pod activities planned in advance and ready to go.
  • Support students in trying new things, having fun and exploring new content.
  • Exercises excellent judgment. Errs on the side of caution and safety when making decisions concerning students.
  • Solutions oriented. Quick to identify and communicate challenges. Equally as quick to propose solutions and options.

JOB QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS

  • 3rd - 10th grade classroom teachers who have a track record of supporting student development and creating a positive classroom environment are ideal candidates.
  • Will also strongly consider candidates with extensive summer camp experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred (or in progress in relevant field)
  • Experience working with students with neurodiversities.



DURATION, COMPENSATION

  • There are two themes running each week. We are looking for coaches who can commit to two or more of the following sessions:
      • June 17, 2024 - June 21, 2024 (Wild Earth & Weather and Writing Fantasy Stories)
      • June 24, 2024 - June 28, 2024 (Wild Animals & Biomes and Science of Food)
      • July 8, 2024 - July 12, 2024 (Out of this World and Science of the Human Body)
      • July 15, 2024 - July 19, 2024 (Desert Survival and Youth Entrepreneurship)
      • July 22, 2024 - July 26, 2024 (Jurassic World and Teen Logic & Leadership)
  • Summer Coach Hours 8:00am-4:00pm or 9:00am - 5:00pm, based on camp enrollment
  • Compensation is $25-30/hour
